A contemporary Western adaptation of traditional Yoruba quilting techniques and colors. Silk Princess is made of dupioni silk. I cut four different colors into 1.5” strips, joined them together, cut them horizontally, and joined them again stair-stepping to create the colorful diamond design. These four colors, representing peace and unity, are reminiscent of traditional dresses princesses wore for special ceremonies in my native Nigeria. Hand embroidery embellishes the collar, cuffs, and sleeves.
